I had a great week for watching the Eastern Coyote pair. While others have been studying the pair for over a yea, I’ve been having troubles finding them. However, with the help of a newly purchased thermal monocular, I’ve finally been able to watch the pair at night over the last few weeks. This week, I’m finally getting to learn emough of their habits to watch them after dark.
On Thursday night, I was able to keep up with them for a few hours, with them disappearing for five to fifteen minutes and then reappear. I got to watch them hunt, swim and explore.
I also got to see how well they kept themselves hidden from the park patrons and their dogs at night. They know how to hid in plain sight!
