Although it’s unclear about what happened at CCNY this year, it has been a great year. We know of only one adult death and one eyass yhat didn’t make it. Low number compared to previous years.
I suspect that the Randalls Island pair may have moved to their nest to the South Bronx. I saw them often when I was out on Randalls Island this winter perched on buidings in the Bronx.
Thanks to news from Jason Huettner, there is an eleventh confirmed nest in Manhattan, located on a fire escape directly above the intersection of Fairview Ave and Broadway Terrace, about a block from the corner of Broadway and 190th and just north of Gorman Park.
Ten nests have hatched this year in Manhattan. A fantastic number. Thanks to all those who helped send news about hatches and the number of eyasses (baby hawks) seen so far.
All confirmed nests have hatched except for Thompkin Square Park, which should hatch by this weekend.
Randalls Island hasn’t been confirmed. I couldn’t find either hawk on my visit last weekend.
The eyasses are getting bigger and confirmed counts are coming in. Fifth Avenue has three eyasses, with the other counts at two. (Thanks to the Morningside Hawks Blog for news about J. Hood Wright Park.)
It looks to be a great year for Red-tailed Hawks in Manhattan, with slightly lower eyess totals due to the cold and snowy winter.
More nests have hatched, but I still have some gaps in the chart for the season. News of any additional nests or hatches in Manhattan, especially around the north of Central Park would be appreciated.
